my time in surfers

Ok so I know this has been a long time coming, but I’ve finally managed to get back on here with a little help from Miss Ryder.

I started off at Brisbane airport where I then travelled to surfers paradise, which was not like I imagined it to be at all, apart from not being the small town I had envisaged, it was full of skyscrapers, bars and clubs. Nightlife aside I woke on the first morning to watch the sun rise over the over the ocean and fairground. I spent the following day sorting out boring stuff like bank accounts (which I still haven’t picked up the card for…) in the evening, we went to a bbq, where I attempted to learn how to fish, and had my first taste of kangaroo meat.

The following day I moved into the sleeping inn hostel and went for my first surf lesson, it was during this lesson I met Marty, an adventuress Irishman, who was travelling down the gold coast to Melbourne. Our partnering in the lesson soon got us talking, then having lunch, then having a wander round the city, talk has long since turned to travel and it didn’t take much persuasion for me to want to go with him. A little while later, after answering to an ad on gumtree, we met up with Joan, aka Frenchy, hence our little trio was born.

Later that evening, surrounded by all you can eat pizza, a crate of beer and attempts to play pool with no tips, we met Katrina, a Dutch doctor on holiday from Adelaide after the friend she was visiting got bitten by a crocodile, I was assured he worked with them they weren’t just wandering around biting people.

So after a crazy night out, the four of us awoke early in the morning to start our travels.

Bit of an intro

Basically I've being saying for years that i want to go travelling, so I'm finally going to do it. My visa starts on the 15th of October so I'm aiming to land some time around then in Brisbane, where I've got a place to stay and a job for a while. After that i plan on bumming around, fruit picking and doing cattle drives and the such like till i run out of money or miss Yaters too much! I am aiming this at my family and friends back home, and also anyone planning something similar who is as clueless as i am on the travelling front.
